- Love and those Single needles in haystacks
Just in case you wondered how many online dating sites you could access to find Mr or Mrs Right – I have the answer. Take a guess first.
Well, did you guess 1400? According to research firm Hitwise many singles find the way to seek out someone you might like to spend time with is to spread your bets by posting profiles on multiple sites. That does make sense in some ways, but that could account for some of the wasted time searching through guys or girls profiles that you’ve probably already searched through on another site!
Some multiple post online daters use different sites for different things. Eg for searching out long term prospects vs a quick fling. Mary P White a Florida Personal Trainer says by using different online sites it just helps ‘maximise my chances‘, but agreed that it took so much longer to go through the 5 different sites she uses. Sometimes Mary is online for 3 hours a day!
I say: Mary, you’ve got too much time on your hands – you need to get OUT there and Meeting them, not just perusing those sites.
Other views on Singles posting profiles on more than one site are a bit conflicting with Relationship expert James Kelly suggesting people are “avoiding the reality of having to actually meet someone and find out for real if there is any chemistry.” While another view from Online Internet Dating Coach, Janice Roberts says ‘its OK to have a profile on up to about 4 sites as long as the goal is to try and meet at least 1 new prospect a week. “
These days it seems we’re all short of time in our lives so by all means use the online dating sites to sniff out some likely connections, but don’t forget to get smell the roses along the way by simply seeing who might be crossing the road that could hold your interest. Or the girl in the Starbuck’s grabbing her coffee. Or the guy in the lift. Or the woman in the Dentist’s waiting room…

Haha! Got you. Just for a change it’s not an environmental plea for reducing greenhouse gases, but it is in the same vein as ‘green’.
You see, it’s St Patrick’s Day today and you’ve got to get into the spirit of it as my little Leprechaun Paddy said to me.
In case you heathens don’t know, St Patrick was one of the patron saints of Ireland. Although it is the national holiday of Ireland, they don’t get to enjoy all the fun and festivities on the Emerald Isle. Celebrations take place everywhere and anywhere you can think of. My child’s teacher was into the spirit of today – totally green in more ways than one! That’s leading by example and getting people involved in festivities – and my son’s only in Pre-Primary!
Where we live we don’t quite have the parades and festivals which other parts of the world enjoy on St Patrick’s Day, but we do enjoy the lots of eating and drinking part of things. (Any excuse!)
It seems that like most other things in the US, it becomes an obsession and St Paddy’s day is no different with everything going green. There’s the usual green beer, green milk, and green hair do’s. But as the saying goes, everything in America is bigger and that goes for the green thing too. For example:
- Ever seen a river go green – apart from Algae – sorry my environmentalist friends – yes, Chicago, Illinois dyes or should it be (dies) its river green.
- Let’s not forget Indianapolis’ main canal going green
- Fancy a bit of a splash in the fountains? Well avoid them today in Savannah, Georgia. Yup they’re green I believe.
- Rolla, Missouri paints city blocks green with mops for the annual parade.
- Jamestown, New York’s Chadakoin River is also dyed green.
I wonder what colour the fish pee?
So where do you go for a bit of action?
Dublin has a parade of mammoth proportions attracting hundreds of thousands of revellers. While in Chicago you have your river going green. For Southern Hemisphere inhabitants, you must make your way to Sydney where we don’t just celebrate on the day. No, it’s been party time since Sunday!
So pull out your shamrock-shaped hat, green clothes, wave a few Irish flags and enrol in your Gaelic football lessons and Irish music workshops to put that spring in your step. See you at the pub.

If your town or city or YOU did something totally green for St Patrick’s Day, please share it with us. It’s just great to have a fun filled day without a care or woe. Perhaps we should have a few St Patrick’s Days a year. Or maybe there could be a St Patrick’s Wife Day, or Friends of St Patrick’s Day? How about it?

The fabulous Miss Poppy has popped up all over the place in the last 20 years. With the ancestry of her Tribal home in the Whangaruru area of New Zealand still very much at heart, Miss Poppy has sung and entertained her way around New Zealand and Australia, thrilling thousands of Blues, Gospel and Classical music devotees, winning the first WA Blues Singer Award. From the North Island of New Zealand to Perth, the Australian Katoomba, Lithgow, Parramatta, Blacktown, Sydney, Leura regions and all points in between Miss Poppy has sung her way into people’s hearts, before finally returning to Perth.
Miss Poppy’s story is interesting, inspiring and a remarkable tale of courage in the face of major hurdles. After recovering from a Stroke, and bad management, Miss Poppy found Perth to be her solace with a well earned rest from the hectic music business.
For now, Miss Poppy has embarked on another career with the assistance of the Belmont Enterprise Centre and the Textile, Footwear and Clothing organisation. Miss Poppy has again seen success with the recent launch of her own clothing line called, what else of course, but Miss Poppy Designs! Her first showing was for a line of corporate suits with Tribal designs under her brand new label of Joe Henry – named after her late brother, Joe Henry Wells.
Miss Poppy plans to take her new Fashion label back to New Zealand to assist with the micro industry in the Whangaruru area. Her particular focus will be on the Afro-American theme.
At a recent TCF function where SHI Symbol showed their latest range of merchandise, Miss Poppy was so taken with what SHI Symbol means and how much freedom it afforded her to chat with others, she wanted one for herself, but to wear with her Tribal symbol. This way, not only do other Singles see she is Single, Happy and Interested, but is also a proud member of the Whangaruru community. “It gives me the freedom to strike up a conversation with others wearing the symbol in a more sincere and non-threatening, caring way Having a SHI Symbol gives people alternative opportunities for them to get together which is great for me because I’m not so keen on Internet Dating – all the romance seems to have been taken out of it. explained Miss Poppy.
Miss Poppy still entertains us at various events, generally in conjunction with the BEC. So, if you’d like to once again see Miss Poppy ‘in action’, watch this space and we’ll let you know when the next function is on.

Found this interesting article by Eric Gibson on the power of your subconscious, particularly relevant when you’re Single and being attracted to someone. I’m a believer in listening to your intuition and going with gut feel, so this article hit a chord with me. Please enjoy and I’d love your input.
The Amazing Power of Subconscious Attraction
Attraction takes place on two levels. The first is
conscious and the second is subconscious attraction.
Conscious attraction involves being attracted to someone
based on their outward appearance (the way they dress, the
car they drive, the money they have etc.) Although
conscious attraction has its place, subconscious attraction
is a lot more powerful.
Have you ever felt drawn to someone and you don’t know why?
They may not dress well or have good manners. They might be
rude or arrogant. In spite of this, you just like them and
want to be with them. This is because you are attracted to
them on a subconscious level. This is a powerful form of
attraction and there is little that a person can do to
resist someone whom they are attracted to on a subconscious
level.
Some people will say someone has the “X factor”. Many
popular figures in society such as rock stars and movie
stars possess this quality. A good example would be Brad
Pitt. Although he is very attractive on the outside, the
most attractive qualities he possesses are in his
subconscious. He exudes confidence and mystery. He commands
respect from men and women alike. You too can possess this
quality. It will take some time to develop, but will be
well worth it in the end.
In order to attract people subconsciously, you need to work
on your inner self. You need to improve your thoughts and
feelings about yourself towards the opposite sex. You need
to develop this aspect of yourself on a daily basis until
it penetrates every cell in your body.
A simple way of doing this is visualisation. Every night,
before you go to sleep, create a picture in your mind of
being an extremely attractive person. See yourself in
different types of encounters with the opposite sex. See
yourself as confident and sexy. Feel how good it is to be
irresistible to the opposite sex. This may seem hard at
first but it will eventually become a routine in your daily
life and take little effort on your part. After a few weeks
of doing this, you will notice the opposite sex finds you
attractive and they won’t know why.
You don’t have to worry about external factors like what
you say or how you dress when you have your inner game
sorted out. You will be able to attract the opposite sex
easily and your dating life will improve ten fold.
