A friend sent me this excerpt from an article a while ago. Renowned Demographer/Business Advisor in Australia, Bernard Salt has identified some interesting information.
We all know we have an ageing population. Therefore, the extrapolation could be that the number of Singles and those over 60 will keep growing too.
Did you realise that when the baby boomers reach their 70s that there will be an estimated 332,000 single women and only 145,000 single men.
Great news – if you’re a guy I guess! Still I hope this is an incentive for all the guys to keep themselves fit and healthy for their 70s. Watch out girls!
Now for all of you elsewhere in the (Western) world, don’t worry – you’re stats will undoubtedly reflect the same sort of skew.
Who said it was a man’s world – we knew that all along!!!

I could not believe it – Singles actually have a week of celebrations to look forward to – just because they are Single. Yes, next week September 21-28 is National USA Week. This stands for National Unmarried and Single Americans Week. Yes, Yes, Yes!!!
What could we do to celebrate? Have a ‘Singles Shower’, sort of the opposite to a Bridal Shower, but with mixed company. Yes, I know there are all sorts of connotations to the Singles Shower and no it definitely doesn’t need to head in that direction, but that could make the Shower all that more interesting and memorable if that’s the way the party is headed! On the other hand, you could invite all your now married buddies and show them how the ‘other half lives’ and get paid back in presents to start the evening up of the ledger on the gift giving route. Don’t forget to give them a cocktail or two to loosen up, they may not have been out lately!
But, what I want to know is what about all the other Singles in the World – can they piggy back and join in the fun with everyone in the States.? This had better catch on. Mind you I hope it doesn’t follow the lead of Thailand with ‘Miss Spinster Thailand and proud of it’ being their celebration! Not sure if most Singles and women at that, in the Western World at least would embrace the terminology in the same way!
Take a look at this link to the unmarriedamerica.org site specifically set up to promote this celebration week, and you’ll find out it’s been a published event/week for many years now. How come no one really knows about it I want to know? Is it because the 100million US Singles don’t want to celebrate and have a week of acknowledgement for where they are and what they achieve as part of our society. I don’t think so! I just think that it hasn’t caught on yet and if you Google, you’ll see what I mean, there’s nothing much there AT ALL. Well I want to change that. Please let all your friends know – Single or Married. We all know someone who knows someone who knows someone Single.
Well this is where I know I can definitely help all the Singles really celebrate in style next week. Just make sure you’re wearing your SHI Symbol that will really help you meet loads more Singles just like you. You’ll be recognized as Single, Happy and Interested and if that’s not the easiest way of meeting new people, creating new friendships, I’d like to know what the answer is. Next week is our time to capitalize – let’s do it.
I know the cocktail world will be looking for Singles in their droves – after all the Cosmopolitans are our signature drink aren’t they? Mind you I have a pretty potent one of my own I favour…

Scientists claim to have discovered the key to finding love, and it’s simple: if you fancy someone, just tell them.
Previous studies have highlighted the importance of natural beauty and physical features, including facial symmetry and voice pitch. The latest research from Aberdeen University, however, concludes that “social cues” – someone’s efforts to show how much they like a person, be it making eye contact, smiling, or a verbal “come-on” – play a vital role in the blossoming of romance.
This was part of a report on the latest Scientific research identifying how to find love. Read more here:

And if you still think it’s difficult to speak to that special person, the object of your attention etc etc – you just haven’t been using your SHI Symbol to the max – that’s what it’s all about, it’s your ultimate ‘meeting people’ tool. It’s ok to make eyes at someone, but you’ve got to know they are ’single, happy and interested’ to have it reciprocated in the first place.
Your love options just increased a million fold I think! Go get’em!

I bet you are thinking in 1st place there’s New York and 2nd there’ll be San Francisco. Well you’re wrong on this occasion. Forbes.com just conducted their annual research to bring us the 40 Best Cities for Singles and this is the criteria used to rank the 40 largest urbanized areas in mainland America in seven different categories:
- number of singles
- nightlife
- culture
- cost of living alone
- job growth
- online dating activity
- and coolness – yes COOLNESS.
I would have thought ‘coolness’ would be a hard one to come up with a real definition for. But anyway, it makes for a worthwhile read and here’s the link

and by the way in case you’re in a hurry, Atlanta scored 1st overall, “because of its hopping nightlife, relatively high number of singles and sizzling job growth”. So if you feel like maximizing your chances, hop on over to Atlanta for a quick sortie. Do let us know how you go now, won’t you!
Overall San Francisco rated second thanks to it’s coolness and culture factors, but New York won the ‘cool’ bit hands down with its ‘coolometer’ reading.
I bet you can’t wait to see how your City rates and in what areas! Do check it out and if there’s a reported mass exodus from Jacksonville, Providence and Salt Lake City, I know nothing!!!
Are you SHI tonight? If you are you’re best off trying Atlanta FIRST!
